GWCIA Secretary General Patricia PuttmanContact TrishHey everyone! I am a sophomore in the Elliott School working toward a degree in International Affairs with a concentration in Conflict & Security. Although I'm an American citizen, I call Brussels, Belgium home! I attended SHAPE International High School at the NATO military headquarters outside Brussels, and my family continues to live there today. I grew up in a military family and additionally had the opportunity to live in Australia, Germany, Hawaii, and several other states. The Greater Washington Conference on International Affairs is a one-day conference where nearly 300 Middle School Students from all around the United States come to GW to participate in Model UN. Committees in the past have included International bodies such as the UN Security Council, and Regional and Specialized Bodies like the League of Arab States and NATO, respectively. This year, GWCIA will include its second ever Joint Crisis Committee. The JCC this year will be between the Israeli Knesset and the Palestinian Legislative Council. The 13th annual GWCIA will be held on the 25th of October, 2008. As a one-day conference, GWCIA not only exposes participants to important international political issues, it also provides a perfect opportunity for first time staffers to see what Model UN is all about. GWCIA is a great way to learn about parliamentary procedure, decision making bodies, diplomacy, and to get involved in the IAS overall. GWCIAAboutOn behalf of The George Washington University’s International Affairs Society, it is with great pleasure and honor I invite you all to participate in the thirteenth annual Greater Washington Conference on International Affairs. The 2008 conference is an ideal forum for middle school students in grades five through eight to learn about and discuss the conflicts and issues facing our world. With its constructive debate and a professional atmosphere, GWCIA XIII will serve as a model learning experience for all students involved. The conference to be held at The George Washington University emphasizes the spirit of diplomacy and art of negotiation. By channeling the professionalism of our staff and the ideal DC location into our conference, GWCIA is a yearly success. The conference is fun, exhilarating, and educational for all participants.Our staff members are George Washington students who are currently studying, working, or feel a passion for international Affairs and diplomacy. As members of the International Affairs society, our staff is equipped with experience and knowledge within the realm of international relations and Model United Nations. GWCIA XIII will join the ranks of previous conferences and set a great precedent for the years to come. The highly praised Joint Crisis Committee will return on the question of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Additionally, the conference will include the UN Commission on Human Rights amongst the returning Regional Bodies and International Organization committees.
