GWCIA Secretary General Kelsey KingContact KelseyHi everyone! I am a sophomore in the Elliot School of International Affairs with a regional concentration in European and Eurasian Studies. I have a n unrequited love for all things Russian and I hope to study abroad in Saint Petersburg. I was born in Florida, raised in Denver, Colorado, and call DC home. I have been involved with IAS since my freshman year helping with GWCIA and WAMUN, competing in Model UN, serving as GWUPIE Director, and serving as Chief-of-Staff for GWCIA XIII. In addition to IAS I am an alumna of the Women's Leadership Program, a member of College Democrats, and last semester I interned at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. When I'm not busy with IAS and other activities, I spend my free time studying Russian, drinking coffee, reading, or drinking more coffee. The Greater Washington Conference on International Affairs is a one-day conference where nearly 300 Middle School Students from all around the United States come to GW to participate in Model UN. This year, GWCIA will include a Joint Crisis Committee on the American Revolution, a historical UN Charter Conference Committee, as well as more traditional committees such as the UN Security Council, DISEC, and the League of Arab States amongst others. The 14th annual GWCIA will be held on the 7th of November, 2009. As a one-day conference, GWCIA not only exposes participants to important international political issues, it also provides a perfect opportunity for first time staffers to see what Model UN is all about. GWCIA is a great way to learn about parliamentary procedure, decision making bodies, diplomacy, and to get involved in the IAS overall. For more information and to get involved, contact me anytime. You can also check out the GWCIA website. |
GWCIA XIVMessage from the Secretary GeneralOn behalf of The George Washington University's International Affairs Society, it is my distinct honor to invite you to participate in the Greater Washington Conference on International Affairs. The 14th annual conference, to be held in the fall of 2009, is an ideal forum for middle students to learn about and discuss the international issues facing our world. With its constructive debate and a professional atmosphere, GWCIA XIV will serve as a learning experience for all students involved. The conference, held at The George Washington University, emphasizes diplomacy and negotiation as a means for solving conflict. By channeling the professionalism of our staff and the ideal DC location into our conference, GWCIA is a yearly success. The conference is fun, exhilarating, and educational for all participants. Our staff members are George Washington students who are currently studying, working, or feel a passion for international Affairs and diplomacy. As members of the International Affairs society, our staff is equipped with experience and knowledge of international relations and Model United Nations. GWCIA XIV will join the ranks of previous conferences and set a great precedent for the years to come. This years conference will once again feature an innovative Joint Crisis Committee as well as the more traditional committee such as the UN Commission on Human Rights and Disarmament and International Security. I look forward to welcoming you to campus in the fall of 2009! GWCIA XIV will be a great experience. If you have any questions or ideas regarding the conference please feel free to e-mail me. Warm Regards, |
